Write for us

We welcome thoughtful proposals about Asian history, philosophy, languages, arts, and traditions. A strong contribution gives readers a clear way into a specific subject and respects the context that makes it meaningful.

What fits

We are interested in focused explainers, comparisons, cultural histories, and close readings of a particular idea, form, text, or practice. Choose a subject narrow enough to handle responsibly, and show how it connects to a specific place, period, language, or tradition where relevant.

A useful pitch

Tell us the working title, the central question, the main point readers will take away, and why the subject merits an article. Include a short outline and note the kinds of sources or expertise the piece would require. Avoid pitches that treat a whole region or culture as one unchanging thing.

How to send it

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please include your name, a way to reply, and any relevant writing samples or background you wish to share. A proposal is not a promise of publication; do not send confidential or sensitive material.

Our approach

Context makes a path worth following

Asia holds many histories and ways of thinking, not one story. We place each subject in its particular setting and pay attention to the details that resist easy generalisation.
